Dog-O-Ween

They are man's best friend... and we are their worst enemy when the fall season is near.

God gave them teeth for a reason. If you want to cash in on your pets misfortune come out to the 9th annual "Dog-o-ween" event this Saturday, October 10th. I'll be emceeing the event from 10-Noon at Sunrise Market Place in Citrus Heights. It's only $5 to register your pooch and that benefits VARK (the Veterinary After Rescue Kare). You could win $200 for Best of Show based in small, medium and large dog categories. PetSmart gift cards and door prizes will also be up for grabs. All contestants get a doggy bag and treats! Only the first 100 applicants will be accepted... but we love bystanders as well. Put that dog on a leash and make sure you and your pet have current vaccinations (just joking, but Fido won't get a pass).

Fundraiser for My Friend Jimmy

So a few months ago I interviewed a local soldier struggling with Lyme Disease that he contracted while deployed. His medical bills are outrageous and the treatment he needs to cope with his constant tremors and other debilitating symptoms are a major expense. No the army isn't footing the bill. The military is denying Jimmy coverage for his Lyme Disease.
If you have some time on Saturday, stop by the Sierra Vista Community Center in Colfax to spend some time with this great guy and his family.

Here are the details and some more about Jimmy:

Date: Saturday, October 17, 2009
Time: 5:30pm - 9:00pm
Location: Sierra Vista Community Center in Colfax. 55 School Street, Colfax C.A 95713

Jeremiah (Jimmy) Katches of Colfax is the husband of Kristy and father of two beautiful daughters, ages 1 and 6 years old. He is an American soldier who contracted Lyme Disease while in the army. In August of 2004, he was medically discharged. Since then, he has visited doctors and specialists paying out of pocket for tests and treatments. At the same time, with his health failing, he has been unable to work full time due to the disease.
Four months ago, he could climb ladders and walk without help. And now he is partially using a walker and a wheelchair. There is help for him with an antibiotic and pump. It is costly. Every penny counts and will make a difference in Jimmy and his family's life!
