HEREAFTER

For the first time in Clint Eastwood's directorial career, he completely misses the mark. It wasn't 30 minutes in I was already looking at my watch! This is a boring, aimless, trite film about what exactly? . . . Death? Life after death? Near-death? Featuring the stories of three people across the globe, who (of course) have their lives intersect at a convenient moment in the movie.

Hereafter is a very slow-moving drama centered on three people who are haunted by mortality in different ways. George (Damon) is a blue-collar American who has a special connection to the afterlife. On the other side of the world, Marie (de France), a French journalist, has a near-death experience that shakes her reality. And when Marcus (Frankie/George McLaren), a London schoolboy, loses the person closest to him, he desperately needs answers. Each on a path in search of the truth, their lives will intersect, forever changed by what they believe might-or must-exist in the hereafter.

I mean, here's Matt Damon with this gift/curse where he can Whoopie Goldberg-like connect with the dead... it hurts relationships and affects all around him... but all of a sudden at the end he can see the future too? It's painfully smarmy. Where did that come from? Maybe it's all about human connection? Well there certainly won't be any audience connection that's for sure!

The bottom line: Go see it if you want to pay for a 2 hour snooze.

Is it worth your money? NO
