LET ME IN

One of the greatest remakes ever! The Swedish verison, "Let the Right One In" was in my top ten movies of the year a few years ago... and I can't believe I'm writing this, but the American version, is even better. Wow. This is an ANTI vampire, vampire movie. It's sublte, eerie, deliberate, paced not just to scare, but make you think, and dwell on the story unfolding in front of you.

It's about a young boy, who is bullied by all of those around him at school. This girl he meets becomes his only friend (prior to which he had none) and teaches him to have the courage to stand up for himself. Except, something just doesn't add up with this young girl. Her father is strangely looking after her, she doesn't come out during the day, and she talks in voices occaaisionally. Ultimately this is a story about love and friendship between a confused young boy and a girl forever trapped in eternal youth with a mighty appetite for human blood.

I would almost call this a vampire "fairytale"... something that sticks with you and you'll want to revisit over and over again. It's exquisitely shot with haunting music and a sense of "Silence of the Lambs" like dread.

The bottom line: LET ME IN is by far one of the very best films of the year.

Is it worth your money? YES
